Two-factor authentication for trading accounts: set it up today

Your account is only as safe as your login. App-based codes beat SMS, and passkeys beat both.

Account takeovers are a growing risk for investors. Two-factor authentication blocks most of them.

Choose in this order

  • Passkeys or hardware keys, where the broker supports them.
  • Authenticator app codes.
  • SMS codes, only if nothing better is available.

Good practice

Use a unique password from a password manager, save your recovery codes offline, and enable withdrawal confirmations or an allowlist of withdrawal destinations if offered. Never share a one-time code, even with someone claiming to be support.

Risk warning: Trading forex and CFDs involves a high level of risk and may not be suitable for all investors. You may lose more than your initial investment.
