Turkey freezes assets tied to executives of nine financial firms

Turkish authorities froze assets linked to executives of nine firms, three of them brokerages, as a probe into investment funds widened.

Turkish authorities have frozen assets connected to executives of nine financial firms, including three brokerages, as an investigation into the country's investment-fund sector widened, according to Finance Magnates, which reported on 21 September 2026.

What was announced

According to the report, Justice Minister Akin Gurlek announced the measures on X. They cover board chairs, board members, authorised signatories and their spouses and first-degree relatives. The people concerned may not carry out transactions that reduce their assets without prosecutors' approval. The brokerages named are Pusula Yatirim Menkul Degerler, Tera Yatirim Menkul Degerler and Bulls Yatirim Menkul Degerler, alongside holding, portfolio-management and real-estate companies in the same groups.

The article also describes steps by the Capital Markets Board (SPK). It halted trading in funds of seven managers and ordered 131 of them liquidated, then extended the liquidation period from three months to six. It reports that Tera Portfoy had about 300 billion liras in redemption requests, and that payments stopped after Takasbank blocked its accounts. Citing Bloomberg and central depository data, the article says Turkish investment funds lost 510 billion liras in assets between the end of August and 18 September. Police have detained several executives; these are investigative steps, not findings of guilt.

A separate share-manipulation case involves 25 suspects and trading in KatilimEvim Tasarruf Finansman shares.

Why it matters for traders

When a regulator restricts funds and freezes executives' assets, clients can face delays in getting money out, and protections depend on the local rules and on whether a firm is still operating normally. The case is outside the retail forex world, but it illustrates the practical meaning of redemption freezes and liquidation timelines.

What to check

  • How a broker's client assets are held, and whether they are segregated from company funds.
  • Which compensation scheme, if any, covers your account.
  • Official regulator notices about any firm you hold money with.
