Mobile trading apps: what to test before you commit

An app that looks beautiful in screenshots can fail at the moments that matter. A short test plan.

For many investors the phone is the main trading screen. A fast, clear app matters most when you are moving quickly, whether to close a position or check an order.

A ten-minute test

  • Open an order ticket and see how many taps it takes to set size, stop and target.
  • Switch between watchlists, charts and positions.
  • Turn on price alerts and see if notifications arrive.
  • Try biometric login and two-factor authentication.
  • Disconnect and reconnect to see how the app recovers.

What to look for

Clear display of fees before you confirm, safe defaults that prevent fat-finger errors, and the ability to do everything you need without a desktop. Check recent app store reviews for stability, but remember they come from many kinds of users.

Risk warning: Trading forex and CFDs involves a high level of risk and may not be suitable for all investors. You may lose more than your initial investment.
