Why demo fills look better than live fills

Practice accounts are useful but optimistic. Here is where the differences come from.

Many traders see tight, consistent fills on a demo account and then meet slippage and wider spreads when they go live. The difference is not always a sign of anything unusual.

Typical causes

  • Demo servers do not interact with real liquidity, so fills are simulated.
  • Order size does not affect price on demo.
  • Live accounts experience variation during fast markets that demo smooths over.

How to adjust

Build a margin for slippage into your plan, test live with small size, and compare your fills with the prevailing market price using screenshots or logs. If differences are large and one-sided, ask the broker's support to explain.

Risk warning: Trading forex and CFDs involves a high level of risk and may not be suitable for all investors. You may lose more than your initial investment.
