Choosing a broker when you live abroad or move countries

Residency, not nationality, usually decides which broker entity can serve you. What to check before and after a move.

Brokers are bound by the rules of the countries where they operate. Which entity can accept you generally depends on where you live, not where you were born.

Before you move

  • Check whether your current broker will continue to serve your new country.
  • Ask what happens to open positions and account types after you update your address.

After you move

Update your details promptly. Some brokers restrict accounts when your address changes to an unsupported country, with limited time to close positions.

Choosing again

Use the country selector on Brokeli to see brokers available where you now live. Selecting a country is a preference, not proof of residence, so always confirm the entity and terms with the broker.

Risk warning: Trading forex and CFDs involves a high level of risk and may not be suitable for all investors. You may lose more than your initial investment.
